
1,100 in Public Shelters in Harrison County

Harrison County, Miss. - As of 9:00 pm CDT today, 1,097 people were in
the nine public storm shelters in the county, taking refuge from Hurricane
Gustav.
Gulfport Central Elementary School at 1043 Pass Road had 180 people in
shelter, the most of any shelter.
Saucier Elementary School at 24052 First Street in Saucier had 42
people sheltered, the lowest number of the nine sites.
Coast Transit Authority transported 99 people to the shelters between
about 5:30 pm and 9:00 pm. The 99 went to several different shelters.
Seventeen animals were sheltered on the grounds of Harrison Central
High School at 15600 School Road north of Gulfport. As required, their
owners were among the people in the shelter at the high school.
