The following photos were shot in February, 2007 and show the recovery
in Biloxi that is well underway. The debris cleanup is finished and new
homes and businesses are beginning to rise from the slabs. There is still
a considerable amount of work to be done, but progress is clear.
Unfortunately, in cities west of Biloxi work to rebuild is moving much
slower. GCN will be adding photos of the progress toward recover over the
next several weeks.

The Biloxi Presbyterian Church has been restored, but it is the only
church on U.S. 90 that has been rebuilt. |

This is the new Biloxi-Ocean Springs bridge that is under
construction. It is scheduled for completion in the spring of '08. |

Biloxi's Lighthouse remains a strong symbol for the city. A plan to
create a new city park around the lighthouse has been approved. |

The new building heights requirements are resulting in new homes
looking much like this in Biloxi's low-lying areas. |

Repairs to Biloxi's Hard Rock Casino are well underway. The casino
should open for the first time this July. |

Mary Mahoney's restaurant is open and has a new sign. The restaurant
was the first to open on the beach after Katrina. |

Biloxi's new Caillavet Street is nearly complete. This northbound
street connects the beach hwy. to Biloxi's Bay Bay area. |

The former Biloxi Magic Casino has been purchased by Harrahs, but it
remains in a devastated condition. |

Many areas of the beach in Harrison County remained closed, but not
all. It is hoped that by summer all of the beach will be open. |

The Catholic run Santa Marie Del Mar retirement tower in downtown
Biloxi is closed. |

FEMA Trailers are found throughout Biloxi. This one is on a
homeowner's lot a short distance from the Palace Casino. |

The Catholic Church is selling their senior citizen's retirement tower in Downtown Biloxi. |

This is St. Michaels Church. The Catholic church is across the street
from several casinos. It has not reopened. |

This is of a home on Biloxi's Water Street, which was devastated by
Katrina. The street is still in bad shape. |

New condos are a major park of Biloxi's reconstruction. This one is
along Biloxi's newly refurbished Caillavet Street. |

This beachfront home is being raised to better survive future
hurricanes. |
