Boomtown Casino is closing its Highway 90 welcome center across from the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino and is building another nearby.
Work crews were at the site Wednesday removing the Boomtown signs from the property.
Boomtown, which is located on Bay View Drive on the Back Bay side of Biloxi, has used their welcome center to help drive traffic back to their property from the busy beach highway.
“Our welcome center is very important to us in directing visitors to our casino. If there was a north-bound exit ramp off of I-110 near us, the welcome center would not be so necessary,” said Chet Harrison, Boomtown's marketing director.
Harrison says Boomtown's new welcome center should open in August just east of their former location and is currently under construction. It is also across the street from the Beau Rivage near the Best Western Motel on the north side of the highway. Harrison says the same signs will be used for their new location but the signs will be in storage for a short time while the new welcome center is completed.
Harrison said the Beau Rivage owns the property at their former location. The lease at the former site expires Thursday, he said. Boomtown has purchased the new site for their new welcome center.
