GCN   Filed 11/21/05

Events for the whole family including a chance to make new holiday ornaments will highlight the Saturday, December 3, Christmas in the City celebration in downtown Biloxi, sponsored by Biloxi Main Street. The day starts with a Children’s Christmas Walking Parade at 9 a.m., sponsored by the Christmas on the Water Committee. For information on the Children’s Walking Parade, call Sarah Rider at 861.6997. Registration forms will be sent out through the Biloxi School System.

Other plans for the festival, which will be held in the Vieux Marche from 9:30 to 4:30 pm, include a visit from Santa Claus, sponsored by the Biloxi-Ocean Springs Junior Auxiliary.  Santa will be on hand for pictures, which will be available for a donation of an unwrapped new toy or $5.  Donations go to the annual Santa’s Helpers program of the Junior Auxiliary and will benefit children on the Coast.

Also, there will be:

  • A performance by the Nativity Elementary School Choir, at 10 a.m.
  • The ladies of the Slavenian Lodge will sell the beloved Biloxi specialty: pusheratas
  • Art Magazine will be on hand to present the latest issue on coastal artists and the healing process of the arts;
  • EJM will have an open house
  • Among the booths: Biloxi’s own Raymond Cox will have presentations from his new store and water gardens; Pam Marshall of Diamondhead will have painted furniture; Cathie Milners of the former Apple Annie’s will offer painting techniques; the antiques store Circa 1909 will be on hand; and Michele Hirata of Fat Thumb Originals will offer vintage purses. The Maritime and Seafood Museum and the Gulf Coast Symphony will be represented.  Patti Golden will offer an ornament-making booth for children, led by Kathy Bristol, and Bobbi Fenton’s Clay Creations will offer little character pieces.
