U.S. 90 in Biloxi to open to two-way
After meeting this Monday afternoon with debris-removal contractors, MDOT and public safety leaders, Mayor A.J. Holloway has announced that the two southernmost lanes of U.S. 90 in Biloxi -- from Debuys Road to Porter Avenue – will open to two-way traffic on Saturday morning at 10.
The two northernmost lanes of the highway will be open only to debris-removal crews, who face the task of removing a large volume of storm debris that property owners have moved to the roadside.
The city plans to consider re-opening the areas of U.S. 90 east of Porter Avenue after Christmastime, in conjunction with the re-opening of the Isle of Capri Casino Resort and the Palace Casino Resort. Both resorts hope re-open sometime before New Year’s Eve.
Motorists on U.S. 90 will be allowed access to the I-110 loop at Porter Avenue, and southbound motorists on I-110 will be allowed access to U.S. 90 for westbound traffic only.
A total of six intersections will be opened initially on U.S. 9 in Biloxi: at Debuys Road, Beauvoir Road, Veterans Avenue, Rodenberg Avenue, Porter and, for westbound traffic, at I-110. The city will erect stop signs at those intersections.
“Highway 90 is re-opening strictly to help move traffic,” Holloway said. “The sand beach remains closed to the public, so no stopping on the U.S. 90 roadside will be allowed.”
