No Emergency Care Available at Keesler AFB
From: Keesler Public Information Office     Filed 5/15/06 GCN

The 81st Medical Group at Keesler AFB is still in the process of repairing damage done by Hurricane Katrina.

Medical Group officials remind eligible beneficiaries that the current capability in emergency services is only to provide first aid care.  Thus true emergencies who present to the first aid station will have to be transferred out to a local emergency room.

To save valuable time in a true emergency, beneficiaries should go, or be taken to, the nearest local emergency room.

If enrolled in TRICARE Prime, in all emergency situations, beneficiaries must notify their Primary Care Manager or regional contractor within 24 hours of any emergency admission so that ongoing care can be coordinated.  Primary Care Manager notification can be accomplished by calling the Keesler Medical Center Appointment line during normal business hours at 1-800-700-8603.  Humana Military Health-Care Services can be reached at 1-800-444-5445.
