KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. - Keesler Medical Center's A Tower entrance, at the top of the elevated driveway, will be closed for renovation starting Jan. 20. It is scheduled to reopen the end of March.
The outpatient clinic entrance by the Pharmacy and Family Practice Clinic will still be available for patients and staff to use.
The renovation is part of a project to place outpatient records and the state-of-the art PRK surgery clinic in this area. This will ensure they, and other high-value items being moved from the hospital's basement, will be safe from future storm-related flooding. During the height of Hurricane Katrina, dozens of medics formed a human chain to rescue more than 100,000 irreplaceable medical records. The records have been kept in the first-floor auditorium since the storm. With the records removed from the auditorium, it will again be available as an important element in the medical residency program returning to the medical center in the summer.
