MDOT Invites Public to Participate in Development of Its
Six-Year Construction Plan
From: MDOT Filed 6/14/06 GCN
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is updating its six-year construction plan – known as the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program – and the public is invited to participate.
According to MDOT Executive Director Larry L. “Butch” Brown, there are several ways in which individuals may review the plan and voice opinions: by attending upcoming MDOT community meetings, going to the www.GoMDOT.com website, or by visiting various review locations across the state (see enclosed list of review locations).
“MDOT is hosting three open house meetings – one in each of the Transportation Commission Districts,” Brown said. “The meeting dates, times and locations are as follows:
• Thursday, June 22, 4 – 7 p.m., Oxford Conference Center, 102 Ed Perry Boulevard, Oxford;
• Tuesday, June 27, 4 – 7 p.m., Regency Hotel and Conference Center, 400 Greymont Avenue, Jackson; and
• Thursday, June 29, 4 – 7 p.m., Hattiesburg Cultural Center, 723 North Main Street, Hattiesburg.”
Brown says meeting attendees may review the existing Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP), talk with MDOT officials and make comments or suggestions about transportation needs in their areas. In addition, members from Mississippi’s three Metropolitan Planning Organizations and the Office of State Aid Road Construction will be in attendance.
“For those individuals who prefer to make comments online, MDOT has set up a STIP page within its website,” Brown said. From the www.GoMDOT.com home page, viewers will be able to access the STIP information and make comments. All forms may be mailed to the MDOT Planning Engineer, P. O. Box 1850, Jackson, MS 39215-1850, faxed to (601) 359-7652, or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Should individuals have questions or comments concerning the STIP they may call (601) 359-7685 or email the Planning Division at email@example.com.
