There is something about monster trucks. Maybe it is the sense of power, or the carnival colors. Or maybe the crowd likes a giveaway radio promotion.

Regardless, the upcoming Monster Jam 2005 monster truck show at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum this Friday and Saturday night is sure to be well attended - if the small crowd at the Highway 90 Wendy's Restaurant in Biloxi  is any example.

About 50 folks turned out to see the truck Wednesday evening and meet the driver, Brandon Lagarde, who pilots "Sudden Impact" on display here. Lagarde is one of participants in the show at the coliseum. Biloxi Clear Channel Radio station K99 had drawn the crowd as part of a promotion for the event.

Big power is part of the appeal of these trucks. Sudden Impact has an 1,800 horsepower V8 mounted midway on the chassis behind the driver. Lagarde says the body on the truck is a stylized Ford Ranger, but he says the truck has appeared at other races with a different body.

K99 radio personality Bob Dever was on hand for the event at Wendy's. But it was clearly the truck that was the star of the show. Kids wanted to be near it and stood in awe at tires almost as tall as their parents.
