From: State Insurance Department     Filed 1/24/07  GCN

Commissioner of Insurance and State Fire Marshal George Dale today joined interim State Fire Academy Director Reggie Bell and a group of invited guests and dignitaries in praising the dedication of the new Fire Research building on the grounds of the State Fire Academy in Pearl, Mississippi.  The dedication ceremonies included demonstrations of the building's capabilities such as high angle rescue/rappelling.

The state-of-the-art training facility became fully operational and was put into service in November 2006. The building is used to offer instruction in extinguishing interior fires, search and rescue and high angle rescue/rappelling. It is one of only a handful of training buildings in the country to feature a computerized burn system.

"The Fire Research building is an outstanding addition to the State Fire Academy, which continues to grow into one of the finest training facilities in the country. We are constantly searching for methods and utilizing specialized training techniques to offer to firefighters across the country, "said Dale.

An average of 15,000 firefighters years train at the State Fire Academy.
Funds for the building were appropriated by the Mississippi Legislature in the 2003 Regular Session.
