Smokin' The Sound Resumes This Weekend in Biloxi

Offshore racing teams from around the country are in Biloxi this weekend for the 2007 Smokin' the Sound, beginning the first race of the season for the Offshore Super Series Powerboat Racing Association.
The racers and their racing machines from this weekend’s Smokin’ the Sound will be making the rounds with parties and time trails throughout the weekend off the east Biloxi shoreline.
The race is the association's first return visit to Biloxi since Hurricane Katrina hit the area and left the offshore waters filled with debris from the hurricane. Since that time, the debris has been removed, making the race possible.
Team members with the association are launching their racing boats at the Point Cadet Marina. Many of the racers are keeping their boats onshore just west of the closed Casino Magic.
The races are truly exciting to watch from the shoreline in Biloxi. The boats travel a circuit that runs just offshore the Biloxi beach and can be easily seen by viewers. During the races, the boats are followed by low-flying helicopters that pace the boats as they streak across the waters of the Mississippi Sound.
