Biloxi, MS- Back Bay Mission’s Second Annual Affordable Housing Summit is scheduled for October 23, 2007, from 8:30am to 5:00pm, at the IP Casino Resort and Spa. This year’s summit is entitled, “Making Housing Happen: Building Community, Not Just Houses” and will focus primarily on building our communities through cross-sector collaboration. One objective is to combine local knowledge about affordable housing models with other models that have proven successful in not only the bricks and mortar involved in housing residents, but also in the supportive services and wealth-building now so necessary in keeping residents housed.
This year, two keynote speakers will highlight the necessity of collaboration and best practices in developing and sustaining affordable housing on the Gulf Coast. Jill Suzanne Shook, D-Min, a developer of the Pasadena Affordable Housing Alliance, has formed inspirational solutions to the national affordable housing crisis, published in her new book, Making Housing Happen: Faith-Based Affordable Housing Models. Kathy Laborde, President of the Gulf Coast Housing Partnership, has expertise in collaboration with local civic leadership and with national financial institutions and foundations. Housing practitioners (for and not-for-profit), economic development agencies, faith-based organizations, and small and large business/industry representatives should find the Summit’s sessions as vital and innovative in their attempts to make housing available to our residents NOW.
Registration is required and space is limited. This event is available at no cost to participants, and lunch will be provided.
