Martin Elected President of the Harrison
County Tourism Commission
The Harrison County Tourism Commission selected a new slate of officers for Fiscal Year 2007-2008 during its meeting held on Tuesday, September 4, 2007. Beverly Martin was elected president and is the first woman to serve in this capacity in the history of the Commission.
Beverly Martin was appointed to the Harrison County Tourism Commission by the Harrison County Board of Supervisors, serving District 5, in July, 2004. Since her appointment Ms. Martin has been an active commissioner attending media events and serving on several key tourism committees.
Ms. Martin has been active in the tourism industry on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for many years. She served as the executive director of the Restaurant & Beverage Association and is currently the Executive Director of the Mississippi Casino Operators Association.
Ms. Martin was awarded the “Distinguished Service” award in 1999 by the Gulf Coast Hotel/Motel Association and the “Billy Creel Excellence in Tourism” award in 2000. In 2002, she was the first Mississippian to be named one of the Gaming Industry’s “25 People to Watch” by Global Gaming Business magazine and has been nationally recognized by Casino Journal magazine as one of 15 “2005 Newsmakers in the Gaming Industry”.
