Truly a "Senior Prom"

It was an evening to remember at the IP Casino Resort and Spa Thursday evening for Coast seniors attending the first "Senior Prom." The event was a sell out to more than 800 people who came to enjoy an evening of fun and music provided by the William Sackett Swing Orchestra. (Photo right: William Sackett.)The first Annual Harrison County Senior Prom was made possible by the Mississippi Gulf Coast Retiree Partnership and the IP Casino Resort and Spa. The gala event was broadcast live via WTNI AM 1640 AM. Listening to the show on the radio it sounded much like radio of years ago when live music and orchestras were a regular feature. The big band sound of was much different than events filled with rock and roll guitars. The music brought the crowd instantly to their feet throughout the orchestra's performance.
More than 800 senior citizens, along with some much younger folks, dressed in their best, filled the Royal Hall ballroom at the IP and dined on shrimp, roast beef, fresh fruit and petits fours. The ball room was decked out in rich jewel tones. Corsages were provided to every lady and carnations to every gentleman on behalf of Biloxi Regional Medical Center. Planning for the event began this past June.
The event's planning committee, was led by Marcia Crawford. The committee raised more than $40,000 to put on the festive event. Sponsors included United States Marine Inc., Chrysler, Grand Biloxi , Memorial Hospital, Biloxi Regional Medical Center, Beau Rivage, and others.
