Our Lady Academy Hosts Race to Rebuild School in Bay St. Louis

GCN           Filed 6/14/06

Experience the humidity and hospitality of Bay St. Louis MS, while also helping raise funds needed to rebuild Our Lady Academy (OLA) from the severe destruction of Hurricane Katrina.   To help raise funds to rebuild, the school is hosting a Race to Rebuild. Although OLA was able to reopen its doors two months after Katrina with limited resources, much rebuilding and refurbishing is still left to do.

Our Lady Academy  is an all girls school enrolling 280 students, 7th through 12th Grade and suffered severe damage from Hurricane Katrina, but it is working to restore the school, bringing back its students and facilities, thanks to the support of many.

Come join us for a fun-filled day on Saturday July 1st that begins with a 5K run/walk or 10K run starting and ending on OLA's campus.   OLA students will be at the aid stations to cheer you on and thank you for your support.  Some students may even be running too.   This event is not just for experienced runners.   Anyone is encouraged to participate, even if you plan to do more walking that running.   Don't forget that you will receive a cool T-shirt with the artwork above, and will be providing much-needed financial support to OLA for post-Katrina recovery needs.   Your registration fee ($40 after June 1st) is tax deductible since OLA has status as a 502c3 charitable organization.

More fun follows later that day at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church's CRABFEST (festival) on the grounds adjacent to OLA's campus.  There will be rides, food vendors, raffles, entertainment, and much more.   For all those OLA and SJA alumnae, the fun will continue later that day with a much requested all-classes reunion (more info TBA soon).

This 5k run/walk or 10k run will be held in Bay St. Louis, starting and ending on OLA's campus, on July 1, 2006.  All proceeds generated from the Race will go towards the school's rebuilding effort.

Among the sponsors to support the Race are: Granite Archer Western (the company that will rebuild the Bay Bridge), Coca Cola, Shamrock Haulers and Hancock Bank.  For more information, visit: http://ourladyacademy.com/main-RaceToRebuild.html#Firstlink
