Biloxi Quickly Cleans Up Town Green Near Katrina Memorial
After Hurricane Gustav
Biloxi cleanup crews wasted no time cleaning up the city's landmark Town Green at the Katrina Memorial. Workers were at the site just a day after Hurricane Gustav and had most of the debris from the storm picked up. The Katrina Memorial is among the most visited sites in the city and was constructed as a gift to the city by the television show Extreme Makeovers Home Edition. Work crews constructed the memorial in only five days and was completed 2/16/06.
While the storm surge from Hurricane Gustav overran the beach highway to the south of the Town Green, it did not come close to the flooding Biloxi experienced during Hurricane Katrina, Aug. 29, 2005. The gray granite slab atop the black obelisk in the right of the photo above was Katrina's high water mark.
