D'Iberville Police Chief Wayne Payne will travel to Jackson on June 10 to receive an $85,009.58 Hurricane Katrina Grant from the Department of Public Safety. This latest funding puts the total of funding and contributions to the new D’Iberville Police Force at about $400,000. The city's new police department is set to "go live" on October 1.

The D’Iberville Police Department is seeking applications for police officers for it’s first city police force. Chief Wayne Payne is hoping to fill the positions with experienced officers who have graduated from a state certified basic police academy, who have a current law enforcement state certification and who have one year of service. Chief Payne said he will hire about 20 officers for the force.

Since D'Iberville's establishment in 1988, the city has contracted with Harrison County for its police services.
