In East Biloxi, Fresh Asphalt Leads to Speeding

From:  City of Biloxi   10/20/17   GCN

It happens on every street and drainage project that the city has ever done, now it's happening in east Biloxi: With more and more streets being paved, more and more motorists are speeding through construction zones.

For the record, the speed limit in the 55 miles of construction zone in east Biloxi is 15 mph.

'We have 175 people working on the project, and sometimes cars just come racing by," said Jennifer Matranga of Oscar Renda Contracting, the firm working on the massive infrastructure project.

"People can see the progress we're making, with huge areas of Division Street and connecting streets now paved, and sidewalks going down on neighborhood streets, which means we'll have more pedestrians out enjoying the beautiful weather.
"All we're asking is for continued patience, and while you're out enjoying the fresh asphalt, please remember we still have a ways to go and we have construction workers out there. Please drive safely and slowly."
