The Past's Future Present Now
Self-Imposed Energy Restrictions Based On Discredited Global Warming Theory Will Negatively Impact America's Return To Prosperity

By Perry Hicks- Special to GulfCoastNews.com   2/11/15

Regardless of what his detractors would like future historians to think, President Barack H. Obama will prove to be one of the most significant presidents in all of American history.  His expressed pre-election goal of fundamentally changing America is reaching, if it hasn't already attained, fruition.  This change has for the most part been predicated on lies.

Take “global warming,” for example.  The historical record had been that at least the 1940s, global average temperatures were falling so that by the mid 1970s, it was feared the Earth was entering a mini ice age.  In particular, Time Magazine famously ran a series of alarmist articles.

However, claims of global warming gained prominence from the early 1980s on, reaching a crescendo with The United Nations Conference On Environment and Development (UNCED) held on June 3, 1992 in Rio de Janeiro.  The summit was attended by 177 nations, but more ominously, approximately 2400 non-government organizations (NGOs.)  The UN clearly was increasingly seeing itself as an actual government with aspirations over its member states.

UNCED led to the NGO driven Kyoto Protocols of 1997 whereby the real objective of “global warming” became readily apparent.  Under the Kyoto treaty, the most environmentally dirty nations would have limited or no responsibility toward curbing “greenhouse gases,” while the cleanest of industrial nations, the United States, would shoulder the greatest burden.

The effect would be to shackle America's economy to the benefit of such nations as Mexico, China, India, and Russia.  Indeed, all of Africa and South America were kept virtually free of restraints.

While United States representatives to UNCED did sign the Kyoto treaty, the U.S. Senate has refused to ratify it, stating in the Byrd-Hagel Resolution that it was the sense of the Senate that the United States should not be a signatory to any treaty that did not place mandates uniformly on all nations.

This has not stopped the Obama administration from subverting the will of congress.  Using the courts in Massachusetts vs Environmental Protection Agency 549 US 497 (2007), the EPA was “compelled” to do what it wanted all along, regulate carbon dioxide emissions as if they were an actual pollutant.

The result is that transportation is being both simultaneously impaired and  made more expensive, and accordingly, the cost of doing any kind of business is being dramatically increased.  Manufacturing, in particular, is particularly impacted.

All of this, of course, has been predicated on a massive lie that the “science” has been settled, there is expert consensus, and the data clearly shows a link between global warming and anthropomorphic CO2 forcing.  There is, in fact, no such thing.

Even as we are told that there has been an increase of atmospheric CO2 from 315.97 parts per million (ppm) in 1959 to 398.55 ppm in 2014, as provided by NOAA's Earth System Research Laboratory (ESL,) global average temperatures did not corresponding rise.  Indeed, there has been no increase in average global temperatures over at least the last 18 years, even though reported CO2 concentrations have been reported to have risen 34.84 ppm.

Indeed, after much “scientific” hand wringing that the artic would be nearly ice free by 2013, artic sea ice has actually rebounded by nearly 30% , once again making maritime travel through the northwest passage quite perilous.

Clearly, the claims of supposedly objective scientific organizations can no longer be trusted.  Just last month, NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) pronounced 2014 the hottest year on record.  Not only does this claim fly in the face of recent personal experience, it doesn't comport with untampered data, either.

GISS derived this claim after “normalizing” the actual “raw” recorded temperature data, as has been done by certain other organizations for decades.  Without the “adjustments,” the recorded data does not show warming either globally, or in most cases, locally. The global warming proponents obviously consider themselves several orders more clever than they actually are; they've been caught once again fudging the numbers.

A well known metrological event known as the “Icelandic Sea Ice Years” ran from 1965 until 1971.  Temperatures dropped dramatically and atmospheric cold and sea ice severely impacted both local agriculture and fishing.  There has subsequently been other cold periods, as well.

However, the local temperature data provided by GISS not only wiped out the 1920-1964 local Icelandic warming period, but also the dramatic drop in temperatures beginning in 1965, as well.  According to GISS data, the Sea Ice Years didn't happen at all.

This tampering with data appears to be similar to the mathematical “trick” used by climatologist Dr. Michael Mann, famously exposed in a hacked University of East Anglia email. That scandal has come be called “Climategate.”

Dr. Mann is the climatologist that produced the infamous “hockey stick” graph that supposedly showed global warming was caused by anthropomorphic (man-made) CO2 “forcing.”  According to Mann, the global temperature was both constant and flat up until the industrial revolution.

However, Mann's hockey stick graph left out very important and well known climatological phenomena, such as the Roman Warming period and the Little Ice Age.

Other uncovered East Anglia emails regarding Mann's “trick,” as well as the reality that average global temperatures dropped after 1940, inspired a satirical pop song, “Hide the Decline.”

As reported by Forbes in 2011, a second batch of hacked East Anglia emails reveals efforts by leading global warming science proponents to be destroying true temperature measurement data, destroying textual communications with each other, and revealing their attitude that global warming isn't science at all, but instead a political cause.  Mann is even quoted as wanting to find someone to investigate and “expose” climate skeptic and scientist, Steve McIntyre.  McIntyre publishes the website, “climateaudit.org.”

Regardless of the willful manipulation of climatological historical data, it is quite evident to even the most casual observers, the dire predictions of global warming advocates hasn't happened as they have forecast, either.

There has been no increase in storm activity, and in fact, the United States has not suffered a major hurricane event since Wilma hit Florida in 2005, despite the repeated warnings of pro-global warming climatologists.  At one point, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) became so desperate to validate their grossly inaccurate forecasts, they were caught by one expert meteorologist naming tropical storms that did not meet the technical criteria for naming tropical storms.  Perhaps the NHC thought no one would notice given these small storms occurred far out to sea.

Based on what can only be characterized as willful attempts to deceive the public and destroy the reputations of those who disagree with what is now called “climate change,” why would any president pursue policies that can only hurt his country's competitiveness with other nations, much less its domestic economy and its citizens quality of life?

For that matter, why would any national leader, much less the president, not only deny his country's access to abundant Canadian energy, vis-a-vis the refusal to proceed with the Keystone Pipeline, but actually see that energy sent to its largest and arguably most hostile competitor, China?

The Unspoken Fundamental Change

With much notable irony, the answer to that question may have been articulated by Florida realestate billionaire, Jeff Greene, at the annual World Economic Forum held in Davos Switzerland.  Green is reported by Bloomberg Business News to have stated, “America’s lifestyle expectations are far too high and need to be adjusted so we have less things and a smaller, better existence.”

Bloomberg went on to report Green's justification for his position by quoting Green on the future jobs outlook.  Green told Bloomberg, “Our economy is in deep trouble. We need to be honest with ourselves. We’ve had a realistic level of job destruction, and those jobs aren’t coming back.”

Bloomberg also quoted Green as saying, “My greatest worry for our country is that globalization and the exponential growth of technology which have destroyed millions of jobs already, will undoubtedly eliminate millions and millions more jobs during the next several years.  Many manufacturing jobs that we lost will come back to the U.S., but most will be filled by robots and software.”

Green is correct.  Driven by U.S. Government policy, such as ObamaCare, that makes employing workers vastly more expensive for business, and generally high taxation, business will turn to automation.  The result will be millions of potential workers permanently locked out of employment and the relief of the resultant human suffering will fall to government.

The irony is that regardless of President Obama's bemoaning the widening gap between rich and poor, or in other parlance, the wholesale destruction of the middle class, under his watch, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.

Green wasn't expressing some elitist notion that the little people need to learn to live within their means, he is expressing the reality that global economic forces are going to take Americans hard earned affluence away from them.

Furthermore, it would appear that the United States Government, led by Barack Obama, is willing to do nothing about it.  If they have their way, there will be no Keystone Pipeline, abundant energy from coal will be artificially suppressed making electrical energy much more difficult and costly to produce.  Already fracking has been suppressed by OPEC's oil price rigging.

Social aspects of Obama's remaking of America are no better.  The notions of what constitutes a family, parental authority over children, rights to self defense, ownership of private property and natural resources, all are being challenged or otherwise redefined.

Indeed, the notion of who is an American is also being challenged.  Millions of illegal aliens, against U.S. law, are being willfully admitted into the country for what can only be the express purpose of first diluting the native born American vote, then fundamentally replacing them.  Americans are even being locked out of employment within their own country.  Of course, President Obama does not want to identify this invasion as illegal, but merely “undocumented,” and has even set up a hotline for illegals to report on Customs and Border officials who attempt to enforce to statute law.

Most of the above changes are being advanced or argued, like the global climate, predicated on lies.  It should be no surprise then that the revolutionary medium to independently communicate, the internet, is being brought under government oversight under the guise of Federal election laws and “network neutrality.”

The national debt has never been higher.  America's stature in the world is in decline.  Record numbers of Americans are out of the workforce- a fact interjecting its own kind of statistical trick to make the unemployment situation look better.  Small businesses, the engine of new job development, is being suppressed by heavy handed government regulations. Race relations have deteriorated.  Colleges and universities, what should be the epitome of a market place for ideas and free speech, increasingly are attempting to control speech.  Government continues to encroach on American's private lives in ways never envisioned by the Founding Fathers, and congress is loath to do anything about it. Record numbers of Americans give up their citizenship.  Even the celebrated economist and former chairman of the Federal Reserve has opined that he fears developments in the United States will result in political crisis.

Jeff Green is right.  American expectations are too high.  We should prepare to have less even as the uber rich become even richer.  We should further prepare to have every aspect of our lives controlled.

The self-described kid with a funny name, Barack Obama, grew up to make great strides in fundamentally changing America.

Of course, as this continues to unfold, we'll be assured that things are getting better...
