Harrison County Officials to Get Mandated Pay Raise
Pay Based on Increase in Property Valuations
by Keith Burton - GCN 2/4/10
Harrison County's assessed valuation for the 2009 assessment year
topped $2,010,533,237, the highest ever for the county. This is good news
for the County's growth, but it is also good news for the county's
government leadership. It means a pay raise.
Salaries for the Board of Supervisor, Tax Assessor and Tax Collector
are based on the assessed value for the county for the preceding taxable
year, according to state law.
County officials got news of the raise this week from Chancery Clerk
John McAdams.
Since the Harrison County has achieved the $2 billion threshold,
the salaries for Tax Assessor Tal Flurry and Tax Collector Sam LaRosa will
go from $61,500 to $64,000. Salaries for the Board of Supervisors will go
from $45,700 to $46,700.
But it isn't an automatic increase. The BOS still must pass a
resolution stating the amount of the pay increase and spread it on the
minutes. That is likely to be done in a pending board meeting.
Expect this to happen pretty quick.
