
Jackson County Holding a Groundbreaking for Harbor Bulkhead Improvement
Project

Supervisors will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, January 26
at 10:00 a.m. for a $4 million improvement project at the Jackson County
Small Craft Harbor in Ocean Springs.

The project will involve replacing all of the bulkhead with new vinyl and
composite material. The current boardwalk will also be replaced and new raised
platforms with quick release power pedestals will be installed for each of the
boat slips. The project which began earlier this month, is primarily funded
through FEMA as well as some Tidelands funds.

“The County has made it a priority to make quality improvements at the Harbor,”
says District 4 Supervisor Troy Ross. “This project will not only be an
aesthetic improvement that everyone can appreciate, boat owners will benefit
from the technological upgrades that also meets FEMA
Flood Requirements for elevated electrical work.”
This is the second FEMA funded improvement project the county has made at the
Harbor over the past two years. Last year the county opened the new Harbor
Office, an $830,000 project that was also funded through FEMA recovery funds.
The bulkhead/boardwalk improvement project is expected to be complete by
January 2013.
The groundbreaking ceremony will be held in front of the Harbor House
at 1310 Harbor Road in Ocean Springs. It will be attended by County
Supervisors, Harbor Commissioners, and representatives from the City of
Ocean Springs, FEMA, MEMA, DMR as well as those managing the project.
