From: News Release 1/23/12  GCN

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, January 26 at 10:00 a.m. for a $4 million improvement project at the Jackson County Small Craft Harbor in Ocean Springs.

The project will involve replacing all of the bulkhead with new vinyl and composite material. The current boardwalk will also be replaced and new raised platforms with quick release power pedestals will be installed for each of the boat slips. The project which began earlier this month, is primarily funded through FEMA as well as some Tidelands funds.

“The County has made it a priority to make quality improvements at the Harbor,” says District 4 Supervisor Troy Ross. “This project will not only be an aesthetic improvement that everyone can appreciate, boat owners will benefit from the technological upgrades that also meets FEMA Flood Requirements for elevated electrical work.”

This is the second FEMA funded improvement project the county has made at the Harbor over the past two years. Last year the county opened the new Harbor Office, an $830,000 project that was also funded through FEMA recovery funds.

The bulkhead/boardwalk improvement project is expected to be complete by January 2013.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held in front of the Harbor House at 1310 Harbor Road in Ocean Springs. It will be attended by County Supervisors, Harbor Commissioners, and representatives from the City of Ocean Springs, FEMA, MEMA, DMR as well as those managing the project.
