County Property Value Notices Will Arrive Next Week Almost 65,000 property value postcards will arrive in the mail boxes of Jackson County residents and business owners next week. The County’s Assessor Office expects all of the notices to be mailed on June 6. “It’s a huge job,” explained Assessor Benny Goff. “We have to do a re-appraisal for every parcel of land in the County and then mail that information to the property owner. Our focus is making sure the values are correct.” Goff says property values will increase an average of 31 percent across the county. Property taxes for next year will be based on these new values. The Mississippi State Tax Commission requires that each county update all property values every four years. The County’s last re-appraisal was completed in 2002. Originally, property values were to be re-assessed during the summer of 2006. |
