Jackson County Governmental and Municipal Office Closures

Jackson County Government offices will close at 3PM.
The City of Gautier closed @ 11AM.
The City of Moss Point closed @ Noon.
The City of Ocean Springs closed @ 2PM.
The City of Pascagoula closed @ Noon.
Weather and conditions will dictate openings.

Due to Tropical Storm Gordon, Waste Management is suspending residential garbage service tomorrow, Wednesday, September 5th for all municipal contracts (includes the unincorporated areas of Jackson County and the City of Moss Point).

The service schedule for the remainder of the week will be the following:

Residents’ whose solid waste is picked up Wednesday, we be picked up Thursday, September 6th
Residents’ whose solid waste is picked up Thursday, will be picked up Friday, September 7th
Residents whose solid waste is picked up Friday, will be picked up Saturday, September 8th


Transportation to the Central Jackson County Shelter in Vancleave, located at 5500 Ballpark Road and the East Jackson County Shelter, located at 18413 Hwy 613, Hurley will end at 5:00PM.

The Vancleave Shelter will be staffed by the American Red Cross, the Hurley shelter will not. Residents going to either shelter should bring medication, pillow change of clothes, snacks and all necessary personal essentials. The Hurley shelter will not have provided water or snacks. The Red Cross website www.redcross.org provides information about shelter guidelines, and other information for your convenience.


The Jackson County Office of Emergency Services is strongly recommending a voluntary evacuation for all residents living in flood prone, low-lying areas, along waterways, bayous, creeks, and drainages due to the increased storm surge potential. Tropical Storm Gordon is expected to hit Jackson County as a Category 1 hurricane.


All Jackson County owned athletic complexes, parks, boat launches, piers and Whispering Pines Golf Course will be closing by 2:00PM today, Tuesday, September 4.

Facilities will reopen when determined to be safe.

All official Jackson County announcements and news releases will come from the County’s Emergency Management Office and/or Public Information Office.
