New Biloxi Bay Bridge Fully Open

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) promised they would
have all of the lanes open by April 7th and their word was true. Coast residents
now have what is truly a picturesque bridge across Biloxi's Bay Bay
between Biloxi and Ocean Springs.
The new bridge was initially scheduled to open in mid April but
contractors, with weeks of good weather behind them, got the bridge fully
opened earlier.
The new bridge cost $338.6 million and built by G. C. Constructors, a
joint venture comprised of Massman Construction Co., Kiewit Southern Co.,
and Traylor Bros., Inc. URS, a consulting engineering firm experienced in
design-build projects, provided project oversight on behalf of MDOT.
GC Constructors is currently working
on a number of finishing touches on the bridge, including ‘touch-up’ paint
on the railing, and the removal of construction materials and portable
offices.
The new bridge was a necessity for the area when hurricane Katrina
knocked down the previous bridge on August 29, 2005.
