Keesler Federal Credit Union Customers Targeted for Phone Scam
Calls May Come Either as Text or Recorded Messages, Scammers Seek Account Info

Customers of Keesler Federal Credit Union have been targeted for unsolicited calls that are part of a telephone scam seeking customer account information.

Keesler has posted a notice on their website, a www.kfcu.com  about the scam and urge customers not to provide account or personal information. The calls to customers can be received either by a text message on their cell phones, or by a recorded message over their traditional land-based phones.

The following message is posted on the Keesler Federal Credit Union website.

SMSishing: Cell Phone Phishing Alert

March 10, 2008 - Keesler Federal members and non-members alike have been targeted in a cell phone text message scam. The messages appear to be from Keesler Federal, but are NOT. The messages may warn that your account is locked, that services will be cancelled without your response or they may offer some incentive to call a number to provide your personal information.

We are working to remove these phone numbers as they are reported. If you receive a suspicious email or text message that appears to be from Keesler Federal, please forward to abuse@kfcu.org .

If you have responded to such an email or text message and supplied personal information such as account numbers, passwords or debit/credit card information, contact our Member Services department at the number below or contact your local branch.

While the notice that the scam had started around March 10, GCN is aware of scam calls as recently at March 22nd.

GCN has researched several of the telephone numbers that were listed as the source of the calls. The numbers are associated with those found in the Miami, Florida area code.
