Railroad Crossing Dangers

It is no secret that the Coast's numerous railroad crossings are a hazard to large, low-slung trucks.  That was demonstrated Thursday at the 33rd Avenue crossing in Gulfport when a large tractor trailer truck found itself stuck on tracks.

Despite warning signs, the railroad crossings frequently snare unsuspecting truck drivers who fail to see the signs and, apparently, don't know the ground clearance of their trailers.  Fortunately, the police were quickly on the scene and no truck-train collision occured.

GCN thanks Gulfport resident Bob Kranz for sending in the photo.
