Biloxi VA Director Reassigned

By:  Keith Burton  GCN   8/2714

The director of the sprawling Biloxi Veterans Affairs complex has been reassigned.  According to a press statement from Mary Kay Gominger, Chief of Community & Public Affairs at the VA:

"Anthony L. Dawson, Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (GCVHCS) director, has been detailed to South Central VA Health Care Network (VISN 16) in Jackson, Miss., for a special assignment for up to 120 days."

"Mark Morgan will serve as acting director for GCVHCS. VISN 16 is one of 21 Veterans Integrated Service Networks (VISNs) of the Department of Veterans Affairs covering 170,000 square miles, which includes Veterans in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and parts of Texas, Missouri, Alabama and Florida.  GCVHCS reports to VISN 16."

An earlier report by WKRG TV5 in Mobile, quoting an independent source told News 5 that the reassignment means Dawson is out as director of the network that cares for some 60,000 Gulf Coast veterans from Biloxi to Pensacola.

Nationwide, the VA has been under scrutiny for long delays in providing services to veterans.
